The Siemens SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU 1214C – 6ES7214-1AG40-0XB0 is a compact programmable logic controller designed to provide centralized machine control, sequencing, monitoring and automation logic in industrial applications.
This CPU 1214C DC/DC/DC combines the PLC processing unit with integrated digital and analog I/O, allowing automation engineers to connect field devices directly to the CPU. It includes 14 digital inputs, 10 digital outputs and 2 analog inputs, making it suitable for machines that require a combination of ON/OFF control and basic analog signal acquisition.
With a 20.4–28.8 V DC power supply and 150 KB program/data memory, the controller provides a practical platform for OEM machines, production equipment, material-handling systems and general industrial automation.
HOW THE CPU 1214C WORKS
FIELD SENSORS → DIGITAL / ANALOG INPUTS → CPU PROCESSING → CONTROL LOGIC → DIGITAL OUTPUTS → ACTUATORS
For example, in an automated machine:
· Proximity sensors detect the position of a workpiece.
· Push buttons provide operator commands.
· A 0–10 V sensor provides a variable process measurement.
· The CPU processes these signals according to the PLC program.
· The controller activates motors, solenoid valves, contactors or other actuators.
· The sequence continues automatically according to the programmed machine logic.
This makes the CPU the central decision-making unit of the automation system.
APPLICATION
1. Conveyor Automation
Sensors detect products moving along a conveyor. The CPU processes the sensor signals and controls the corresponding motor-control or actuator circuits according to the programmed sequence.
2. Packaging Machines
Digital inputs can monitor machine-position sensors and operator commands, while outputs control valves, relays and other machine functions.
3. Pump Control
Digital inputs can receive pump status or level-switch signals, while analog inputs can monitor a suitable 0–10 V process signal. The PLC then executes the programmed pump-control sequence.
4. Assembly Machines
The CPU can coordinate multiple machine steps using sensor feedback, timers, counters and output commands.
5. Process Monitoring
Analog signals can be acquired from compatible 0–10 V transmitters and processed by the PLC for monitoring or control functions.
